Site Policies

An introduction to site policies, rules, and etiquette.

The details of our CampusProgress.org site policies and rules are in our Terms of Use. Here’s a discussion of some key points about interacting with the site. Please remember that this discussion is not a substitute for reading the full Terms of Use.

CampusProgress.org welcomes anyone to visit the site and check out our various pages. In order to use certain site features, like contests and polls, we require that you sign up, giving us your email address and zip code. When you enter your name and email address, you’re automatically signing up for our weekly email updates. You can opt out at any time, and we won’t sell your information to other organizations.

Site Rules and Site Etiquette

CampusProgress.org members and registered users must follow basic guidelines when commenting on the site. Here are some of them to get you started. Again, this is no substitute for reading the full Terms of Use.

1. Remember where you are and what this site is meant for.

The purpose of the blogs are to encourage discussion on topics related to ideas, issues, campuses, and student activism. It is not an open-air chat forum. It’s great to talk about your own experiences and inject your personality into your writing. But keep focused.

2. All viewpoints are welcome.

While this is a site centered on progressive students, we welcome a broad range of viewpoints, so long as they are expressed in a civilized manner.

3. Civilized debate is not an oxymoron; it’s required on this site.

As far as arguing with each other goes, there are a couple of lines we’re drawing in the sand. It’s clear that you won’t always agree with others, and people are going to get into heated discussions sometimes. Petty remarks and harsh language are discouraged, but not forbidden. The following ARE forbidden – for more information about what is forbidden, please see our Terms of Use:

  1. Threatening, abusing, intimidating, or harrassing another CampusProgress.org user.
  2. Posting any private information about another person without their consent.
  3. Posting any content that is unlawful, racist, libelous, defamatory, obscene, or that harrasses particular individuals or groups.
  4. Using CampusProgress.org for any illegal purpose.

If you do any of these, we will delete the comment.

4. We are not free advertising.

Posting comments for no purpose except promoting your own commercial venture is not allowed.

If you’ve written something somewhere else — your student paper, your own blog — that’s relevant to a discussion here, by all means go ahead and link to it. Please keep such links relevant to the discussion.

5.Grammar is your bestest friend in the world.

Diaries and comments are expected to follow some basic style etiquette- try as hard as you can to use correct spelling and grammar. DON’T WRITE IN ALL CAPS, don’t use “l33t sp34k,” and don’t end sentences with seventeen exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
